New Pictavision®
5.0 Turns Camera Phones Into Real Cameras
Simple to use application from dotPhoto to unlock
MMS revenue for carriers
Mobile Imaging Summit,
Monterey, Ca. — October 12, 2005 — The cell phone industry has invested
serious money subsidizing consumer purchases of camera phones during the
past two years. Now the shocking truth: nobody cares! Consumers aren’t using
their camera phones and carriers are missing out on millions of dollars of
expected MMS revenue.
The solution comes this week,
when dotPhoto announces Pictavision® 5.0, a dramatic advancement that
fulfills the promise of camera phones by making it extraordinarily easy for
consumers to instantly upload their pictures from their camera phone to the
Internet where they can share, preserve and tell their stories to anyone in
the world. The announcement will be made from the floor of the Mobile
Imaging Summit being held from October 10th through October 12th in
Monterey, California.
Available October 31, 2005,
Pictavision 5.0 overcomes the very pain points that have prevented wide
scale adoption of multimedia messaging by delivering an easy-to-navigate
interface that requires no more technical skill than being able to press a
camera phone’s “OK” button. Users simply point and shoot, hit OK and their
pictures, videos and voice captions are instantly uploaded to
www.dotPhoto.com, where a personal account is automatically created and
where the photos are stored forever.
“Consumers want impulse
picture taking, as seen by the popularity of single-use cameras, and they
are paying a premium to use disposables,” says Ivan Ruzic, CEO of dotPhoto,
Inc. “Ironically, they already have the ability to take and share these same
photos on their camera phones for much less, but they are not taking
advantage of it because it’s too complicated and intimidating.”
Pictavision 5.0 streamlines
the process to take and send photos in batches. The pictures are
automatically sent to dotPhoto where they can be published in a wide variety
of formats, including traditional prints, merchandise, or in the dotPhoto
Show, a one-of-kind multimedia presentation. The dotPhoto Show is
automatically created whenever photos are uploaded to the site without
requiring the consumer to download any additional software. Pictavision 5.0
is also the only wireless application that lets the user attach voice
narration to their photos and videos from their camera phone images—allowing
users to share their passions, preserve their memories, and tell their
stories, quickly and easily. Once uploaded, users can choose to delete their
pictures from their camera phone eliminating the burden of connecting their
phones to their computers or accessing their storage medium.
Pictavision 5.0 will be
available to carriers operating on both BREW® and Java™ platforms. “The
issue isn’t whether consumers want convergence in a single device,” says
dotPhoto Chairman and CTO, Glenn Paul.
“The issue is how to make
camera phones easier and better than single-use cameras. Pictavision 5.0
does just that for pictures, voice captions, and videos. It’s fun, easy and
it will unlock the revenue potential of MMS.”
